Creation · patronage · art of living

A place becomes a work of art.

Each year, Charlem accepts one or two invitations to transform a private estate, château, distinctive hotel or heritage property into a living studio.

Private creative residencies
Invite the artist. Inspire a body of work. Leave a cultural legacy.

For several days or weeks, Charlem follows the rhythm of a place, encounters its story and creates an original series. Each residency is shaped with the host as an experience of patronage, transmission and collecting.

The experience

A house becomes a studio.

Light, architecture, landscape and local stories become the material for a new body of work. Charlem may work in painting, sculpture or mixed media, according to the space and ambition of the residency.

Every project is by invitation and defined through a private proposal. Duration, included artwork, hosting conditions, materials, travel, insurance and the final presentation are agreed before arrival.

01A creative presence

An artist at work within the property, with selected moments of exchange for hosts and their guests.

02An agreed artwork

One signature work or a selection defined in advance enters the host’s collection.

03A closing salon

The residency may culminate in a private presentation where the new body of work is unveiled and offered.

Three adaptable formats

From a private studio stay to a legacy residency.

10 to 12 days

Private Studio

A focused immersion to create a work or small group inspired by the place, followed by an intimate closing encounter.

About 4 weeks

Legacy Residency

An in-depth project that may combine painting, sculpture, the memory of the estate and a tailored curatorial presentation.

What the residency creates

  • A body of work inspired directly by the place
  • An included artwork defined in the private agreement
  • A digital residency journal
  • A closing presentation or exhibition
  • First selection offered to the host

What the host makes possible

  • A suitable, secure workspace
  • Private accommodation for the artist and agreed family members
  • Travel, materials and project logistics as defined
  • Access to the property, its history and key people
  • The closing reception and qualified guests, when selected
Residency journal

The journey remains alive.

Each residency can become a documented chapter: the place, sketches, process, completed works and their unveiling. It creates a cultural memory the host can share and Charlem can extend through his travel journals.

His practice has been shaped by creative travels from Terneuzen to Tadoussac, and through Panama, Costa Rica and Mexico.

A sustainable practice

Creating abroad, while staying close to family.

When the property allows, the residency is designed to welcome the artist with agreed members of his family. This supports a longer immersion, a truer relationship with the territory and fully present creative work.

Only one or two residencies are selected each year to preserve their rarity, quality of presence and artistic ambition.

Could your place become the next chapter?

Introduce the property, possible dates, its story and the experience you envision. The studio will prepare a confidential proposal defining the duration, artworks, hosting conditions and final salon.
